Lake Oconee is a 19,050 acre lake that was formed in 1979 with the completion of the Wallace Dam.  It is the second largest lake in Georgia with a shoreline of 374 miles.  Because the two rivers that form Lake Oconee (Appalachee and Oconee) do not pass through industrial areas, the water is very clean and create the best fishing lake in the South East.  A total of 430 pounds of fish per acre is estimated for Lake Oconee.  Because Lake Oconee is a hydroelectric lake (versus a Corps of Engineers lake) the level remains constant allowing for homeowners to erect permanent docks at their homesite.
